Beasts of the Southern Wild star Quvenzhane Wallis cast as Annie

25 Feb

After an Oscar-nominated performance in Beasts of the Southern Wild, Quvenzhane Wallis’ filmography is rapidly expanding. Sony Pictures announced yesterday that the Oscar nominated actress will play the lead in the upcoming movie-musical remake of Annie. Wallis replaces Willow Smith who had to drop out of the project earlier this year.

Slated for a holiday 2014 release, the new Annie is being produced by Jay-Z and Will Smith, and directed by Will Gluck of “Easy A”.

In addition to her lead role in Annie, Wallis has a small role in the upcoming Steve McQueen film Twelve Years as a Slave alongside Brad Pitt. Guess this is another opportunity for her to go for that Best Actress Award in 2015?
