Best Thing I Bought This Month: Every Drop Beauty Spatula

26 Nov

When it comes to beauty budgeting a penny saved is a penny earned and this adage doesn’t stop at the checkout counter – it applies to how how you use your goodies too.  I bought a lot of nice (discounted) goodies this month including a Clarisonic (more about that later!)  but none of them compare to this little gem – Every Drop Beauty Spatula.

Every-Drop-Beauty-SpatulaHow does this knickknack  help me save money? By making sure I use every. last. drop. of my products. Usually I’ll turn a shampoo bottle upside down to get maybe three more uses from it but I can take it a step further with the beauty spatula and scrape even the last three drops. Yes – all of three of them.

EveryDropSpatula

The spatula is tiny enough that it fits into almost any bottle with an opening. So yes – I’ve even scraped out the drops from those .5 oz perfumed lotion bottles I’m hesitant to let go! It’s got a long stem that reaches the bottom of all my bottles – even my value-sized conditioner. So what if I only paid $3 for a 16 oz conditioner – I’m still trying to make sure I get my money’s worth!!!

The Every Drop Spatula is available online and in stores from The Container Store for $4.99. Five bucks is a small amount to pay considering how much more use I’ll get out of all my expensive goodies!

2013 American Music Awards: Red Carpet Highlights

25 Nov

Last night’s American Music Awards looks were pretty underwhelming. Black and white proved to be the shades of choice and the key to a successful look seemed to be covered up with cut outs. Here’s a round-up of the looks worth talking about:

AMAs2013-Katy-PerryKaty Perry this look is just – no. A black dress with white polka dots interrupted by red and pink flowers? This looks like something you wore to the 8th grade prom and are embarrassed about when someone posts it as a Throwback Thursday pic. To add insult to injury her black and white polka dot nails match the dress.

AMAs2013-Christina-AguileraChristina Aguilera is a vast improvement from the look she sported at last year’s AMAs. The Voice judge stunned in a long sleeved white dress with a plunging V-neck and sheer triangular cut outs on the side.

NellyNelly has GOT to hire a stylist so he can start looking like he belongs. Just because you’re not accepting an award doesn’t mean you don’t have to try. In sneaks, a long sleeved graphic tee and are those leather pants? Nelly more like he’s ready to run to Target than perform at an awards show.

AMAs2013-Ariana-GrandeAriana Grande was one of the few starlets to embrace color in a Dolce and Gabbana gown. She looked great but it’s clear she’s still learning about red carpet style – and how to do her hair like an adult. Cute, but hopefully she gets it right next time.

CA: 2013 American Music Awards Red Carpet - ArrivalsLeave it to Lady Gaga to make the most dramatic red carpet entrances ever. The “Applause” singer donned a Versace gown and rode onto the carpet on a man-made horse.

AMAs2013-RihannaIt seems like most people didn’t really care about their appearance last night but least invested shockingly goes to Rihanna. The “What Now” singer is known for pulling off bold red carpet looks but maybe she got tired of the attention? Not only did Rihanna skip the red carpet but when she eventually showed up to the awards, she a black bra top with a high waist brief attached a sheer overlay that touched the floor. Her hair? Undone. Rihanna came with her hair wrapped up as though she’d just left the salon and was waiting till she had somewhere important to be before exposing a new ‘do. In case you’re wondering yes – she did get on stage to perform and accept both her awards without combing out her hair.

AMAs2013-Miley-Cyrus8Miley Cyrus showed up her most shocking red carpet look of the year –  a white pantsuit. We’ve gotten so accustomed to seeing her wear something bold and controversial but the singer chose a more conservative look for her red carpet arrival. Don’t worry – by the time she was ready to perform she shed the suit in favor of her more usual attire – a revealing two piece tankini set that seemed to be cut by the same people who made Baywatch uniforms. At least the cat print set was kind of cute?

AMAs2013-Taylor-SwiftBig winner Taylor Swift continued her style evolution in a dress by Julian McDonald. The singer went super short gold Julian McDonald dress with a sheer cut out and strappy gold sandals. Her simple straightened hair was the perfect complement to this look.

AMAs2013-Naya-RiveraTaylor Swift may have won the most awards but Naya Rivera was the REAL winner on the red carpet.  Her long-sleeved, floor length turtleneck gown with a train covered every inch of her body except the large cut out in the center showing the right amount of cleavage. Her jewels, if you even noticed them, were a nice simple addition to the look.

Best and Worst Moments from the 2013 American Music Awards

25 Nov

ABC aired the 41st annual American Music Awards last night and though the red carpet looks were a bit lackluster, the show itself gave us a few moments worth talking about.

Lil Mama may have killed it as Left Eye in VH1’s TLC biopic, but her performance with the surviving members of the group tanked. Not only was Lil Mama on a different pace from T-Boz and Chilli, but the group seemed bored and tired throughout their whole performance.

R. Kelly jumped on stage with Lady Gaga to perform their single “Do What You Want”. The Pied Piper must’ve had a lot of creative control over the performance as it was the most theatrical of the night. It’s unclear which president the duo was trying to portray  – JFK & Marilyn Monroe? Olivia and Fitz? –  but R. Kelly played the president with  Gaga as his staff member/mistress. It was a great attempt but their chemistry was just non-existent. As if things weren’t awkward enough, an image of Gaga’s younger self playing piano appeared towards the end of the performance. Singing suggestive lyrics to R. Kelly as images of a minor are onstage?  Do what you want with that thought.

Miley closed the drawn out awards singing her hit single “Wrecking Ball”. Vocally, she did better than most but viewers were too distracted by her extremely high cut bikini bottoms and a GIF of a cat lip-syncing behind her. Though milder than as of late, her attention craving antics distracted from what could’ve been the best performance of the evening.

Performance of the night goes to J. Lo’s tribute to the legendary Celia Cruz. Her vocal chords couldn’t compare to the late salsa singer but J.Lo served up her best teased high ponytail and dancing skills while performing a medley of La Reina’s songs including “Quimbara” and “Carnaval”.

This year’s award winners were a bit predictable. Ariana Grande was crowned “New Artist of the Year” while One Direction took home “Favorite Band/Duo/Group – Pop/Rock “and “Favorite Album – Pop/Rock.” Once again, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis dominated the hip-hop categories winning “Favorite Artist” and Favorite Album”. The duo was performing in Miami and took their acceptance speech as an opportunity to bring awareness to the dangers of racial profiling.

Who took home the most awards? You guessed it – Taylor Swift. This time she wasn’t surprised to collect , “Favorite Female Artist – Pop/Rock”, “Favorite Female Artist -Country”, “Favorite Country Album ” and her third “Artist of the Year”. Justin Timberlake followed closely behind with three awards in the”Favorite Male Artist- Pop/Rock”, “Favorite Male ArtistSoul/R&B”,  and “Favorite Album – Soul/R&B” categories.

Solange for PUMA: 3 reasons to be excited

21 Nov

While you were prepping to leave the office yesterday, Solange was on Instagram announcing her new job: Art Director and Creative Consultant for PUMA!

Solange has dipped her hands in almost ALL the creative pots, making her a singer/songwriter/DJ/socialite/fashionista, so this new role could be perfect for her. Here’s three reasons  to look forward to Solo’s design gig:

  • Creative style is her ‘thing’, and now it can be ours too!   Solange may have burst onto the scene as the singing little sister of pop-star Beyonce, but everything she’s done from her music to her wardrobe has always had it’s own flavor – and we’ve always been envious. Now instead of just admiring Solange’s wardrobe creations, we can actually rock them. Awesome!
  • Kicks for girls who don’t wear sneakers! I’m not a sneaker woman for several reasons – mainly I can’t find  any cute ones I like!! Surely Solange will come up with creative designs women like me don’t mind wearing whether we’re working out or running errands.
  • Original ideas and fresh talent! For her first PUMA project, Solange curated a team of four emerging talented designers to create the “Girls of Blaze” collection – a re-interpretation of the classic Puma Disk style inspired by the sights and sounds of Brazil. So if you’re not making it to the World Cup next summer you can at least watch the games and be dressed in the Brazilian spirit!

Solange’s “Girls of Blaze” collection debuts in February, how anxious are you?!

Kanye and Kim K more than make out in ‘Bound 2’ video

19 Nov

Michelle Obama can’t star in a video like this.

Kanye took to the Ellen show to reveal the visual for his latest single “Bound 2”,  where his  baby mama  fiancee Kim Kardashian stars as the leading lady and calls on the “talents” that made her famous in the first place.

The video starts off visually “creative” enough with images of mountains and wild horses running free but once the beat drops we somehow make it to shots of the outspoken rapper riding a motorcycle, eventually joined by a topless Kim Kardashian. Though Kanye is fully dressed (in a shirt with holes) and it’s made clear Kim is wearing jeans, the two simulate making love. But why is that necessary?

Maybe Kimye is trying to show us how in love they are with this visual? Perhaps. But Jayonce has a whole catalog of songs and videos about their relationship without getting naked, and we still get the point.

Click the link below  to see the video for yourself. Yes, Kim’s hair and makeup is flawless, but other than that are you feeling it?
