Midlife crisis? Beyonce chops off all her hair!!

8 Aug

Our reigning queen of pop has never been shy about changing her look. Beyonce’s given us red hair, blonde hair, straight locks, curly locks – pretty much anything long and luxurious. While you were sleeping, Beyonce Instagrammed a pic of her latest do – a pixie cut – still blonde and with her own roots exposed.

What brought on this change? Bey just wrapped up the North American leg of her Mrs. Carter Show tour Monday night in Brooklyn. A few shows ago, the stars trademark long locks got caught in a fan and an assistant had to literally cut her extensions out of the fan. The star didn’t miss a beat – but did jokingly change the lyrics to her song “Halo” and post them to Instagram. Perhaps this recent scare fueled the singer to do away with the long hair?

Bey’s been taking more creative risks lately. Though she’s famous for playing it safe by fusing her R&B/pop hits with whatever trend is taking the world by storm at the moment, she recently released a southern hip-hop infused single where she takes subliminal jabs at other singers and has been semi-glorifying the “ratchet” lifestyle. It’s apparent the 31 year-old singer has spent a lifetime being told what to do and may very well be going through a postponed rebellious stage where she tries things she’s never really been able to do. It’s never too late to find yourself and take experiment with what makes you happy so if this is what she’s doing, go ‘head Beyonce!

Gabrielle Union is blonde!!! Do we love it?

25 Jul

Not to be upstaged by Rihanna’s recent fade to grey, Gabrielle Union uploaded a photo of herself with a new color too!

The star of upcoming film Think Like a Man 2 has transitioned from born brunette to blonde – but not your average prominent blonde color. Union’s shade blends her natural hue with the blonde  for a natural looking dye job.  What’s not so natural about the new  look? It seems while she borrowed Rihanna’s “blend it in” technique she also took Beyonce’s “leave my roots out so they think it’s real” approach. We can still see an inch or two of her true hue poking out. Check out the photo below:

Union uploaded the photo to her Instagram account yesterday with the caption “New Day, New Job… New Do”. New Day? √ New Do √ New Job?  Wait just a minute! Could this mean the change is for an upcoming project? We already know she’s working on a sequel to Think Like a Man and that her made-for-TV movie Being Mary Jane will be turned into a TV show, but could this be a separate project? I’m eager to find out!

What do you think of Gabrielle’s new look? Should she keep it after this alleged project or does it have to go?

Like it Love it, Gotta Have it! New Curly Hair Products

25 Apr

Ever since this movement to embrace one’s natural texture has happened, being a curly girl has gotten ten times easier! Not only are there more products that cater to wavy/curly strands, but former curly cult brands have become mainstream, meaning you can get them at mass retail stores like Target and Walgreens!

Some of my favorite tried and true curly girl brands have been cooking up new products. Here’s a few I can’t wait to get my hands on:

Early morning workouts mean detangling my bedhead so that I can put it in a presentable ponytail before leaving the house. This is where DevaCurl’s No Comb Detangling Spray would come in handy. I hate combing my hair before it’s been washed or conditioned so hopefully a few spritzes of this stuff and I can fingercomb my hair into a workout ready style.

Fiesta’s Finds: Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls

9 Oct

Finding a good hair product is a lifelong journey. You’ve got to take into consideration your hair type, hair needs, budget, and other miscellaneous factors. Let’s not forget the countless marketing ploys designed to convince you their brand is THEE best. That’s why whenever I find a new product that works wonders for my hair I’m thrilled!

I was elated to receive Miss Jessie’s newest styling product: Pillow Soft Curls. The brainchild of Queens-bred sister Miko & Titi Branch, Miss Jessie’s is a line of shampoos, conditioners and styling products geared toward naturally curly hair. The product claims it is “perfect for achieving static-free, big, soft, curly hair.”

After freshly washing, conditioning, and detangling as the instructions suggest, I liberally applied Pillow Soft Curls through my hair and was instantly impressed! Somehow the Branch sisters perfectly captured my largest curly styling conundrum – “How do I get something that holds like gel without the sticky feel and icky residue”? As if the performance wasn’t enough, my hair smells like fabric softener. Aahh!

Pillow Soft Curls is a definite styling staple for my daily routine. I’d recommend this to people looking for a soft styler that can define their curls while maintaining movement.

Helpful hint: If you’re hair is super curly or fairly dry, be sure to use a moisturizing cream with Pillow Soft Curls.
