Best thing I bought this month: Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick

31 Oct
Red-Lips

“Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick.”
― Gwyneth Paltrow

Ever since my new obsession with lipstick started I’ve been determined to find a red that works just for me.  Sure, Marc Jacobs gave me a great plum color but I still needed that classic red lip!

About three weeks ago I wandered into Sephora and aggressively started trying out lipsticks. I tried Sephora red – cute, but not for me. I also tested a few from NARS and a couple other brands but it wasn’t until I got to the Urban Decay section that I found my hue – Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in F-bomb.

It’s almost like the shade was calling me. When I tried on the others I had to stop, think about it, look at the one next to it, examine my look in the mirror. Tilt to the left, then right. Take selfies and look again all before deciding they wouldn’t work.  When I walked up to the Urban Decay display F-bomb just jumped out at me. I tried it on and immediately fell in love. Just to make sure I wasn’t delusional I walked up to someone else and before I could open my mouth to ask what she thought she said, “OMG, that red looks GREAT on you!”

I managed to walk out with the last one they had – talk about luck! Their Revolution lipsticks retail for $22 but since I had a $10 gift card I only had to pay the balance of $12 plus tax. Score!

So now I have my trendy plum shade, and a classic red. I should be all set as far as lipstick goes – for now at least ;).

Fiesta’s Finds: Neutrogena Extra Gentle Eye Makeup Remover Pads

28 Oct

Sensitive skin sucks. I’ve spent literally hundreds of dollars trying out different formulas in search of something that won’t bother me,  which is why I’m especially happy when I find a mild products that’s affordable.

Extra Gentle Eye Makeup Remover Pads Neutrogena, $7.99

Neutrogena, $7.99

Usually I use liquid eye makeup remover and a cotton round to take off my eye-makeup before cleansing the rest of my face. This method works, but depending on which remover I use my eyes might start to itch or just be covered in oil. Gross!

Neutrogena’s new Eye Makeup Remover Pads are super soft and easy on the eyes. They’re large enough that I can take off eyeshadow, liner and mascara  – yes, even the Marc Jacobs gel liner that’s so waterproof it NEVER moves – from both eyelids in just one pad!

I’m mostly happy that this is a drugstore brand. It’s always awesome to find products that agree with you but even better when it’s a product you can use coupons on!

An eyeshadow girl in lipstick

Lip Gel in "Seduce Me" Marc Jacobs, $30

Marc Jacobs Lip Gel in “Seduction” Sephora, $30

When it comes to beauty you’re either an eye enthusiast or lip fanatic. Though I’ve always been partial to new tricks with eyeshadow, I just HAD to get my hands on the lipstick shades from Rihanna’s  RiRi Hearts MAC Collection. As eager as I was to venture into a new look, these particular shades apparently weren’t so eager for me.

Just a few uses resulted in an allergic reaction – but I remained determined to find a lipstick that looked great on meminus the medical mishap of course.  A few weeks later while shopping my favorite items from the new Marc Jacobs beauty line I stumbled upon a deep berry shade that I absolutely adore : Seduction.

Let’s keep things clear – I’m still, and forever will be, an eyeshadow girl – but I adore how different and almost effortless of a change lipstick can be. For one, it simplifies my beauty routine. If I’m in  a rush I can just apply foundation, a bit of mascara and finish off with lipstick, as opposed to spending time contouring and blending to create the right look onto my eyelids. Lipstick is also easier to master since the lines of your lips are clearly defined as opposed to figuring out exactly where your crease and browbone start. My biggest disappointment with lipstick? It’s impossible to gracefully eat certain foods, like burritos. I’ve definitely found myself planning meals accordingly.

I’m still on the hunt for that perfect shade of true red. As I stated before, I’ll always be an Eyeshadow enthusiast. But it’s nice to know if I ever want to switch things up I have a simple, go-to shade that looks great!

Beauty must-do: Plum pouts

18 Sep

glossy-lips1

While you’re updating your closet for this season’s hot new looks, don’t forget to refresh your makeup drawer!

Now that temperatures are falling it’s time to put away the bright red lip in favor of a warmer hue.  This season it’s all about the deep berry lips – not as bright as true red nor subtle as a nude, a Bordeaux colored lip is a great vampy accent to an otherwise simple beauty routine.

Can’t tell which color looks best? Go for a browner base if your skin is darker, a more plum-based if your skin is on the fairer side. Feel free to experiment with several different hues to see which works best for you.

Will you be trying the plum pout this season?

The 4 items you MUST pick up from Marc Jacobs’ beauty line

12 Aug

Marc Jacobs debuted his first beauty line at Sephora last Friday, complete with 121 products. Across the board, this collection includes long lasting products with high shine, and Jacobs wasn’t shy about using gel technology as often as possible,  Want to know which products are worth buying? Read below.

Gel high-liner

I swore up and down that my beauty-lution this year would be to work on liquid liner – but I HAD to take a break on that and opt for this Gel crayon. The new gel technology makes it long-lasting and waterproof (I tested it to my hand and it took FOUR washes before it rubbed off!), not to mention easy to apply. If you’ve got dark skin let the “Intro (vert)” add a fun pop on your skin, for fair or olive skin try the bronze, shimmery Ro (Cocoa)”.

Style Eye-con No. 7 “The Vamp”, $59

At $59 this seven-shadow palette is a better investment than the $42 eye-con No. 3 which only gives you three colors. Choose “Starlet” or “Lolita” if you prefer a more natural look, go for “The Vamp” if you’d like to experiment with different shades.

Lust for Lacquer

Lip Lacquer "Boom Boom", $28

Lip Lacquer “Boom Boom”, $28

Hate how you  have to reapply your lip gloss 100 times a day but not really a lipstick girl? Try the Lust for Lacquer Lip Vinyl – Full. This fully pigmented, plumping formula is infused with antioxidants, essential oils, and a hint of effervescence for a perfect pout with the highest shine. “Boom Boom” closely resembles the”Heaux” shade of lipstick from RiRiHeartsMAC but is far more moisturizing than MAC’s matte version.

Enamored

A well done manicure is HIGHLY underrated. Use Flourescent Beige” for a nude or French manicure. Put Glinda” over another shade to add a textured sparkle to your mani, and top EVERYTHING with “Shiny” to add even more luster. Despite its chip-resistant technology these nail lacquers are easy to take off with nail polish remover – even the glittery Glinda.

The Marc Jacobs beauty line is available now at Sephora, Sephora.com and the Marc Jacobs beauty store at 385 Bleecker St. in New York City. Have fun experimenting!
